A Sure-Fire Approach To Building Your Company's AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is on the minds of many IT and business leaders, thanks to a growing list of compelling use cases. However, when it comes time to implement, many of them find their enthusiasm replaced with frustration
"Why do some AI initiatives fail? Organizations underestimate the scale and complexity of building systems to support AI workloads. In practice, this means finding and processing enough quality data and choosing the right infrastructure to support it.

Recently, Mike Matchett, CEO and principal analyst of Small Word Big Data, sat down to interview Dr. James Coomer, Senior VP of Product Management with DDN. This video of the interview (on TruthInIt.com) discusses AI challenges and the importance of a parallelized and optimized environment. To better understand Dr. Coomer's recommendations, we'll first look at how AI handles data..."

DDN Capitalizes On Momentum Going Into H2 Of 2021
2020 was a crazy year. For some companies, it was a disaster; however, for others, it was a banner year. One such company that benefitted from the topsy-turvy 2020 was DDN (DataDirect Networks)
"We had the chance to sit down with members of the DDN team to talk about how they were able to capitalize on the state of the IT industry following the COVID-19 pandemic through key expansion and demand generation efforts.

Making the Most of a Pandemic

Unlike other industries, which had to completely adapt their models to maintain business continuity amidst the changes brought on by the pandemic, the IT/tech industry saw something of a boom. This was largely due to the fact that, as many organizations were forced to work remotely for health and safety reasons, the products offered by the industry proved invaluable to making that digital transformation a successful one..."

Converge Networking And Security To Get The Most Out Of 5G
Companies across industries continue to follow trends like digital transformation, Internet of Things (IoT) adoption, and remote work to gain better business outcomes and provide better user experiences
"But each of these initiatives makes the network perimeter more complex and expansive, especially when considering the extended IT infrastructures they create. Home offices, branches, data centers, and multiple cloud platforms require a new approach to security across all edges, including the LAN, WAN, data center, and cloud.

The rapid transition to remote work in light of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for organizations to readjust their business continuity plans. Responding to these changes shows that business continuity must include flexible, anywhere, anytime, secure remote access to information in any application on any device and from any location. More importantly, businesses must do this at scale. In order to do this, and to fully realize the potential of these technology decisions, organizations must converge networking and security..."

Securing Multi- and Hybrid Clouds that Enterprises Rely On

Over 90% of enterprises employ multi- and hybrid clouds, allowing their applications to reside anywhere - from on-campus to branch to data center to cloud. Where these applications reside should be transparent to the end user. This challenges organizations to interconnect applications and data across clouds, data centers, and branches to achieve this - sometimes at the expenses of security and operational efficiency.

"Fortinet's CEO Ken Xie has worked to create a broad, integrated, and automated approach that has been very successful. More than a half a million organizations now trust Fortinet to protect their distributed networks.

Much of this is due to our commitment to advanced innovation, evidenced by our over 700 patents-the most of any security vendor. These SPUs have paved the way for full support of the new hyperperformance applications and networks being introduced by 5G and beyond. Five Cool Things About Private 5G
Cisco is positioning organizations for the wireless revolution

But 5G's advances in bandwidth and latency will go far beyond the consumer experience. It's also a potential game-changer for enterprises, manufacturers, universities, hospitals, the public sector and beyond.

For many of these organizations, a private 5G network will be the way to go, often in tandem with Wi-Fi 6. All will want to step up to the next level of digitalization and transformation - for example, by realizing the full potential of Internet of Things technologies. And by enabling them to build and easily reconfigure infrastructures to meet their needs and their customers' demands, while enabling heightened security, private networks will be critical investments..."

Building A New, Better, And More Collaborative Future Of Work Post-Pandemic
With hindsight, it's easy to look back and see how our workplaces and cultures could have been better prepared for a year like 2020
Our digital infrastructures weren't as strong and dynamic as we hoped, our work cultures and skills weren't as ready for new ways of working as we needed, and our digital applications were simply designed for a different era and different needs. But hindsight only provides perspective on what could have been better. It doesn't necessarily create a map for the future to anticipate twists and turns, especially in today's disruptive times.

The reality today is that organizations still must take stock and prepare for a new future of work. One where large-scale change - created by an exponential continuum of global tech innovation along with recent systemically disruptive events - is a regular fixture. Research has shown that deeply interconnected systems, which our human world of pervasive transportation systems and digital networks has now become, are highly effective at rapidly propagating and amplifying disruptive events. Yet undeniably, there is also great value in our global supply chains and widely available digital knowledge, among the many attendant benefits of technology. In the end, it's a double-edged sword. As with all technology, there are both benefits and opportunity costs.

Azure Applied AI Services Accelerate AI Solution Development To Help Businesses Soar
At any given moment, turnaround coordinators for German airline Lufthansa CityLine have their eyes glued to monitors displaying more than half a dozen video feeds of airplanes parked at gates around the airport
The coordinators' job is to ensure that the planes are unloaded, refueled, cleaned, restocked and reloaded so that every passenger reaches their destination safely, on time and with their luggage.

Minutes lost here or there in the turnaround process can add up, costing airlines millions of dollars a year. As many in the industry note, airplanes only make money while in the air.

'Think of a pitstop in a car race, and this is pretty much the same that happens in a turnaround for an aircraft,' said Philipp Grindemann, head of business development and project management for Lufthansa CityLine. 'All the processes need to be on time, need to be fast, need to be lean.'

Application Mobility Across Cloud Is No Longer A Pipedream:
If you are a cloud engineer or hold any IT practitioner role, this scenario may be very familiar to you. In this blog series, we will focus on a day-to-day situation that you may go through within your IT function and demonstrate how Nutanix may be able to solve these situations with our hybrid and multicloud solutions. This is the first of a series of 5 blogs. Let's talk about application mobility from on-prem to cloud environments today!
"When your boss says 'we are going to be a cloud-first company,' a few common questions come to mind: 'how quickly do we need to get to the cloud?'and "are there any budget constraints?" But you know the answers are going to be "NOW, if not yesterday," and "keep the cost to a minimum."

So we worked hard. We ran hundreds of applications in our private cloud to ensure data security in our on-prem environment and build automation policies to deliver IT needs in a timely fashion. As time goes on, we encounter some upswings and downswings in utilization. We begin to anticipate them and scale up in advance, then draw down afterward. Shutting down some VMs and storage wasn't that hard, but drawing down full servers was very costly. Once purchased, they were there to stay in our datacenter for good..."

Employees, Leadership, And Loyalty
Success in the workplace requires understanding your employees. Matter of fact, we'll say that your employees are the biggest component of success, which means that without strong and effective leadership, and without feelings of loyalty, success will be lacking.
"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence." - Colin Powell

Ty Collins defines a loyal employee as: a person who has worked for your company and has always focused on the success of the company. This includes sacrificing their own time and interest to put more energy into the corporation. These selfless acts are measurable and done on a daily basis.

Loyalty is a two-way street. A company and its leaders must be loyal to their employees if they are to expect loyalty in return. John C. Maxwell feels loyalty boils down to COMPASSION. His formula for achieving success is:

COMPASSION > COOPERATION > RELATIONSHIPS = RESULTS
