Artificial Intelligence - What's Holding Back Your AI Strategy?
According to some surveys approximately four out of every five AI projects don't reach production
"That amounts to quite a few companies struggling to make it happen. It's no wonder that many businesses and IT leaders are hesitant to invest in AI at scale.

Yet simply increasing infrastructure investment does not guarantee AI success: it may even bring more challenges. Instead, IT leaders need to consider making the right investment, and that requires a focus on building systems that are optimized for AI, rather than trying to use general-purpose infrastructure technologies.

Fortunately, the story of AI's global growth continues to accelerate. Given that one out of every five AI projects IS reaching production, there is still reason for hope. Let's look at the most common problems that AI projects face and determine what it takes to be a success.

The following are five common challenges with AI and how you can address them:..."

Recorded Future News
The Boston Globe: Taking On Global Cybercrime - From Davis Square
Recorded Future: Intelligence for Enterprise Security
Pranshu Verma writes in the Bosyon Globe, "As the United States grapples with a sharp rise in cyberattacks, one of the nation's first lines of defense operates out of an unlikely location: a former laundromat in Somerville, where an army of private-sector analysts track the world's most notorious hackers and criminals.

Despite the unassuming headquarters in Davis Square, the team at Recorded Future provides the highest reaches of the US government with intelligence on the country's most prominent breaches, both digital and physical.

The security firm tracked communications from pro-Trump rioters and other sources in on-line forums during the Jan. 6 insurrection, providing real-time information to US officials about their motivations once inside the Capitol.

In May, when DarkSide, a Russian cyber hacking group, shut down a major oil pipeline for ransom, US officials asked Recorded Future to help figure out who orchestrated the attack, employees said..."

Examining The Role Of Zero Trust Access In OT Security
As operational technology (OT) networks become increasingly connected to the rest of an organization's network infrastructure, they become a growing target for increasingly sophisticated cyber criminals
"In fact, Fortinet's 2020 State of Operational Technology Cybersecurity Report indicates that nine out of 10 OT leaders had at least one intrusion in the past year, with 72% having experienced three or more.

OT infrastructures can no longer rely on an air gap as a primary defense mechanism. Instead, OT security strategies should center on Zero Trust Access (ZTA), which doesn't allow access to any user, device, or application without proper credentials (identification and permissions). This helps neutralize threats from both inside and outside the network and ultimately prevent data breaches..."

Fortinet Acquires Application Security Innovator Sken.Ai To Accelerate DevSecOps
Over the years, application development has moved from a 'waterfall mode' to an 'agile mode'
"The waterfall mode is a sequential approach where changes to the application are deployed perhaps once in many months, and the development team moved to the next phase of development or testing only if the previous step completed successfully. In the agile mode, however, development and testing activities are concurrent and helps continuous iteration of development and testing. Also the application changes are deployed very frequently to the cloud, sometimes even on a daily basis, and so the development, functional and application security (AppSec) testing teams have tighter collaboration and communication with faster turnaround times. This has led to the need to automate the workflow involved in building and deploying applications to the cloud, and subsequently to the rise of the DevOps role, where in continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools are used to enable this automation..."

Security In The Pharmaceutical Value Chain - An Enabler Of Change
Technological innovations have provided pharmaceutical companies with data sharing, real time information and an unprecedented level of supply chain visibility
"However, the ever-changing nature of their supply chains can leave companies vulnerable to theft and emerging cyber risks. Protecting data should be a top priority. However, integrating cybersecurity with business strategy is often not given adequate consideration. According to Christopher Callahan - Chief Information Security Officer at Weichert Companies and ex Novartis Director, Global IT Risk & Compliance, Cyber Security Operations: 'Security is thought of as an IT problem, a tech problem, not a business level problem'..."

Webinar: Two Sides Of The Pam Coin (July 27th)
There are two sides of the PAM Coin. Password vaulting is one. Privilege Elevation is the other.
A vault is a great first step in protecting your company from identity-related data breaches, but don't stop there! We invite you to join ThycoticCentrify to learn why you must go beyond simply implementing a vault to further mitigate risk and align with modern best practices such as Zero Trust.

On this CyberCast Live, we'll share PAM insights including how to:

  • Reduce privileged accounts
  • Implement least privilege with privilege elevation
  • Establish a root of trust and protect at the system level
  • Control administrator activity and access with privilege elevation
  • Assure identity with MFA Everywhere
  • Ensure full accountability of administrative actions

In this interactive Cybercast Live, Tony Goulding and Brad Shewmake will walk us through these important concepts and considerations for PAM maturity to secure the modern enterprise.

Your Employees Are Ready For Hybrid Working. Are You?
The last year has redefined work so that it is now much more about 'what you do' and much less about 'where you go.'
"As it becomes feasible for us to meet one another again, leaders are having to think about what the office is really for and how best to use the space.

While some businesses are preparing to return to the office full-time and others are letting people work from home indefinitely, most are looking at hybrid options. Employees want flexibility and choice. According to Cisco's research, 87% of workers surveyed in EMEAR want the ability to decide whether they work in the office or at home - or even in coffee shops, co-working spaces, customers' or suppliers' sites, hotels and other hospitality environments that are rethinking their own business models in light of changing working practices..."

A permanent move to a hybrid way of working is a monumental change for any business and how leaders manage that change is a defining moment.

How Partnerships Help Agencies Accelerate Custom Ai Deployments
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are poised to transform military and defense decision-making and operations.
"Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are poised to transform military and defense decision-making and operations. In fact, according to a recent congressional research report, AI research is already well underway. There are several factors driving this transformation; namely, the availability of 'big data' sources, improvements to machine learning approaches, combined with increases in compute processing power.

Deploying AI models at the edge

For the first time, federal agencies can integrate AI and ML in ways and locations never possible before. One, for example, is directly at the network edge through high performance compute (HPC) systems, housed in rugged, server-class machines, featuring one or more graphics processing units (GPU) for accelerated processing. When the data at the edge is fed into new technologies that enable AI, agencies can make faster and more accurate decisions in the field, on the front line of every mission..."

Sage Advice For Transforming It In The Data Decade
Finishing the final mile of transformation is not easy. Modernizing IT infrastructure helps you increase agility, enhance service levels, reduce costs and simplify IT so that you can innovate with data and accelerate transformation
"The Chinese sage Lao Tzu once said, 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.' In IT, the last mile of digital transformation is often the hardest part of the journey.

Consider that 94% of organizations surveyed identified the following top four barriers as impeding their path to the transformation finish line:

  • Information overload
  • An inability to extract valuable insights from data
  • Data privacy and security
  • Lack of budget and resources

These barriers all point to the same thing - organizations are struggling with data management. And yet despite an ever-increasing torrent of data and workloads flooding IT systems across hybrid, multi-cloud and edge locations, there are clamors from all corners of the business for still MORE data..."

HPE Proliant DL385 Gen10 Plus V2 Server Review
Shortly after AMD launched its latest generation of AMD EPYC 7003 processors, HPE announced several updates for support of the new CPUs
"Amid this announcement, the company announced the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus V2 Server. The server is a 2U, dual-socket system with the ability to have up to 128 cores and 8TB of RAM depending on how you configure it. What is the difference between the DL385 Gen10 Plus V1 and V2?

An astute reader will see that sneaky V2 on the end of the server's name. So what is different between this version and the first version. The V1 was announced back in 2018 at Computex. While it too was a 2U, dual-processor it supports AMD EPYC 7002 or second-gen CPUs. Version one supports up to 4TB of RAM. Microsoft's Commitment To The DoD Remains Steadfast

Driving Warehouse Management Success In An Era Of Supply Chain Disruption
Last year was one of the most disruptive in history for supply chains, and ripple effects have continued to present major obstacles for supply chain leaders throughout 2021 - with no signs of that disruption subsiding
"Organizations continue to grapple with severe imbalances in inventory due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and significant disruptions over the past few months - such as the Suez Canal blockage - have further magnified these issues.

This widespread disruption means that the warehouse has never been a more important link in organizations' supply chains, as it is the central hub for inventory and a key factor in ensuring timely deliveries to customers..."

Why *This* Award Really Matters To Us
Industry accolades come and go, but what matters most to us is the feedback we get from customers
"We still have a lot of work to do, but we're very proud that Redwood, Oracle's next-generation design system, has won a San Francisco Design Week Award for user experience.

And while we're proud of winning this award, we consider ourselves successful only if our customers are successful. We work to earn and re-earn that trust every day, and we're grateful for the dedication, passion, and customer-focus of the entire team responsible for designing and putting Redwood into practice..."

Red Hat News
Automating Performance Analysis
As a system administrator, have you ever found yourself in this situation? Your production systems have been humming along nicely when, out of the blue, the phone rings. "What just happened!? Everything slowed to a crawl, but now it's fine again?"
"Where to even start? Your systems are complex. There are so many moving parts potentially contributing to the problem that root causes can be anywhere-and worse, they can be transient. There are databases, networked storage, firewalls, applications, JVMs, VMs, containers, kernels, power management, backups, live migrations, database schema changes-and that's just on your development laptop! It's even more complex in production datacenters and the cloud, where you've got it all operating on large, real-life data sets.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) provides tools that can help. Let's look at a simple command line technique and tools that will help you as the first responder to a performance emergency-beyond dashboards, beyond top(1) and iostat(1) and pidstat(1) and netstat(1) and vmstat(1) and so on and so forth-to help you to gain deeper understanding and find root causes..."

Dive Into Red Hat Enterprise Linux For Edge With Labs
Walkthrough of setting up updates for edge systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including kickstart files
"With the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.3 last November, Red Hat added support for resilient edge computing architectures based on proven features within RHEL. RHEL for Edge creates operating system images that update "atomically" with automatic rollback on failure.

These operating system images provide efficient updates to RHEL systems by delivering only the deltas to an updated operating system image instead of the complete image. RHEL for Edge enables rapid application of security updates and patches with minimum downtime and continuity of operations if updates should fail..."

Read About Red Hat's Open Hybrid Cloud Portfolio In This Gartner Report
Gartner published its "2021 Vendor Rating: IBM report1" in early June, and we're pleased to report that Red Hat received an overall positive rating* from Gartner.
"We believe we received the rating because we remain focused on delivering the Red Hat portfolio of open hybrid cloud products and services with IBM as one of many strategic partners that help us deliver the offerings for digital transformation that our customers need.

Red Hat's partner ecosystem is one of our strengths Red Hat has designed its open hybrid cloud portfolio to provide customers with an IT environment that meets today's and tomorrow's needs. That means that we go to market with partners like AWS, Dell, HPE, Microsoft and, yes, IBM.

We believe in working well with our partners to meet our customers where they are today and to help them get where they need to be. To do that, we offer a platform that's consistent across environments from on-premises to cloud to the edge.

Red Hat works with more than 4,900 certified ISVs and we currently have more than 5,500 tested, verified and supported hardware components..."

Red Hat Is Still Red Hat
I am so proud of what Red Hat has accomplished this year, and as I look into the future, our path is bright - Paul Cormier
"You've heard me and other Red Hatters say this many times over the last two years. We've proven that we're leaning into that promise time and time again, not only with our words but with our actions. Our neutrality as the open hybrid cloud company is important not only to us but to IBM as a whole. This is how we help our customers connect and scale all clouds and applications.

We're not the only people who believe this. In the 2021 Gartner Vendor Rating: IBM report, IBM received an Overall "Positive" Rating. IBM acquired Red Hat in 2019, so this is the 7th consecutive time that we've received a "Positive" rating, including our prior ratings. Per our understanding, we were evaluated separately from IBM, which in our opinion is an acknowledgment of our neutrality and strategy, thus making it potentially the most meaningful..."
