It's well known that Fortinet delivers the most-deployed network security solution on the market, representing over one-third of all firewall shipments.
Fortinet is also a serious networking vendor with technology in SD-WAN,
Ethernet switching, Wi-Fi access points, and more. We believe our position
as a networking leader is further exemplified by Fortinet being named
a Gartner Peer Insights Customers' Choice for Enterprise Wired and
Wireless LAN Infrastructure for the fourth year in a row.
The Importance of Security-Driven Networking
Organizations value Fortinet's network offerings because they bridge the
gap between networking and security-breaking down silos that have existed
for years-to offer a better experience both for the groups running the
network and the users who rely on it to get their jobs done.
For most retailers, effective networking must deliver on the three Ps: protection, performance, and price.
One major retailer with more than 1,700 stores had found that its legacy network was failing to meet any of these touchstones. For one, it was obliged to manage its security and network devices separately, which added cost and complexity. Additionally, given the adverse effect it had on network performance, the retailer could not fully utilize its IPS (intrusion prevention system). Other challenges included poor performance optimization and limited visibility into network traffic.
Overall, the retailer found itself with an expensive system that adversely affected business performance and profitability.
Fortinet recently released the 2022 State of Operational Technology and Cybersecurity Report.
Based on a detailed survey conducted in March 2022 of more than 500 global operational technology (OT) professionals, the report's data highlights the current state of OT security and provides a roadmap to better secure OT organizations.
The need to improve OT security is underscored in the report, which found: 93% of OT organizations experienced an intrusion in the past year, and 78% of them experienced more than three intrusions.
Air-gapped No More
Traditionally, security was not as critical a consideration when programmable logic controllers (PLCs)-the brains of any industrial control system (ICS) or OT network-were designed. PLCs never verified the authenticity of message senders, and controller communications had zero encryption capability. Previously, there was no need for these security measures because an organization's OT network was always air-gapped from their IT network.
Fortinet has been the driving force in the evolution of cybersecurity for over 20 years
Central to that is FortiGate, the industry's most-deployed, patented, and validated firewall. With over 8.4 million cumulative units shipped, representing over one-third of all firewall shipments, and performance numbers that average 15x better than competitive offerings, it's no secret that FortiGate is the #1 firewall in the world.
Less well-known is that FortiGate also serves as the foundation of the only true converged networking and security platform available today. Here are just a few of the robust networking solutions delivered via FortiGate.
