Cisco Demonstrates Co-packaged Optics (CPO) System at OFC 2023
As network traffic continues to grow due to higher bandwidth applications, such as AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning), high-resolution video streaming and virtual reality, the strain placed upon data center networks continues to increase.
These insatiable demands for more bandwidth are resulting in higher speed and higher density optics and ASICs. The aggregate throughput of switch and optics devices is doubling every two to three years, which ultimately results in doubling the speed and increases in power of the host to pluggable optics electrical interface. Unfortunately, while Moore's Law continues to allow us to scale our chips and equipment (despite non-trivial technical challenges), its corollary, Dennard Scaling, has been dead for a while. This means the power required for the new generation of switch and optics semiconductors is higher than the previous one.

Cisco Was Recognized As A Visionary In The 2022 Gartner Magic Quadrant For Endpoint Protection Platforms
The surge of fully remote or hybrid workers has increased the need for organizations to have full visibility and the ability to respond quickly to thwart any attacks as they arise. Whether the device is on- or off-premises, or in the cloud organizations must have the security tools to respond.
The continuously changing and complex threat landscape can add pressure on your internal security team, which they may not be equipped to handle. By partnering with a security company that understands the current threat landscape and can prepare you to tackle threats that lie ahead, your organization can save time and resources and instead focus on your core business.

Protecting your hybrid workers while maintaining your security resilience is the name of the game.

Embracing Equity: Why Equal Opportunities For Women Aren't Enough To Create A More Inclusive Future
March 8 is International Women's Day (IWD), which started with the first IWD gathering in 1911 and continues to this day in 'celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.'
This year's theme is 'embrace equity' because it is important to understand the difference between equity and equality.

According to the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University, 'Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.'

Citrix News
Introducing The New Citrix Strategy And Product Innovations
Over the past few months, you may have heard about some significant changes to Citrix. Most notably, Citrix Systems went private in September of 2022 and became a business unit of Cloud Software Group.
Now, naturally you're asking yourself, 'What does this mean for me?' And honestly, that's a fair question. After all, tech companies are restructuring and merging at a regular occurrence these days, and it often doesn't alter much from a customer perspective.

However, in this case, Citrix going private means many positive, tangible changes are coming to our customers. With this new structure, the Citrix business unit of Cloud Software Group now has the flexibility and autonomy to focus on our core strength: providing an enterprise platform for app and desktop delivery. And that doesn't just mean Windows apps. We're evolving the platform itself to support and secure the growing number of enterprise web and SaaS apps critical to your business.

How To Use Confidential Containers Without Confidential Hardware
The Confidential Containers (CoCo) project aims to implement a cloud-native solution for confidential computing using the most advanced trusted execution environments (TEE) technologies available from hardware vendors like AMD, IBM and Intel.
Recently, the first release of the project (version v0.1.0) was announced, allowing developers to find a solid base for contributing features for future releases. The community recognizes that not every developer has access to TEE-capable machines and we don't want this to be a blocker for contributions. So version 0.1.0 and later come with a custom runtime that lets developers play with CoCo on either a simple virtual or bare-metal machines.

Step Beyond Traditional Security And Device Management
Unlock five key benefits when you pair Dell commercial PCs with Intel vPro and VMware Workspace ONE.
As the workforce becomes more distributed, the challenges of managing and securing a PC fleet have intensified. Managing remote PCs has become the norm, creating new hurdles for IT teams, such as needing to remotely troubleshoot, re-image or restore. But capabilities are limited when a PC is turned off or the operating system is not functioning.

These challenges can not only lead to significant blind spots and vulnerabilities across IT environments, but also inefficiencies for IT teams and users. To bridge these challenges, Dell Technologies, Intel and VMware worked together to introduce a new integration across Dell commercial PCs with Intel vPro and VMware Workspace ONE.

Fortinet takes this call to action very seriously and is committed to advancing gender equality in cybersecurity. We're doing this in part by creating more opportunities for women in the industry through our corporate social responsibility efforts and Training Institute by increasing access to cyber training and professional development opportunities for women and underserved populations.

On this day dedicated to women, we want to spotlight two of our female employees: Pratyusha Paul Chowdhury, Senior Principal Engineer at Fortinet, and Maria Jose Albarran, Channel Account Director. Pratyusha and Maria spoke about their background, the opportunities they've had within Fortinet to advance in their careers, and what knowledge they would impart to other women.

Go From Zero-Day Threats To Zero Threats With Inline Sandboxing
Even if you have extensive security in place, unknown and suspicious code and files continue to present serious threats. Until recently, no vendor has been able to deliver in-line sandboxing on the network because of the astronomical performance demands.
Fortinet's dedication to innovation had led to the industry's first inline sandbox on a next-generation firewall (NGFW), which holds suspicious files and analyzes them in near real-time without impacting productivity or network performance. Unlike a traditional offline sandbox, known file-based threats such as malware are never allowed to enter the network, reducing risk and time to mitigate significantly. Inline sandboxing is one of many examples of Fortinet's dedication to industry-first cybersecurity innovation to help our customers reduce risk and stay ahead of cyber adversaries.

Here's How We Can Collectively Shrink The Cybersecurity Skills Gap
Security breaches are rising across all industries, with cybercriminals leveling up their playbooks and increasing the volume of attacks. As if trying to stay ahead of adversaries weren't enough, security leaders are also working to manage another risk: a talent shortage.
Organizations are finding it hard to attract and retain security professionals, especially those who work in security operations center (SOC) roles as these teams are strained and facing burnout. In fact, 65% of SOC professionals have considered quitting their jobs. Other security-focused positions that are in demand but difficult to fill include cloud security specialists, network security architects, and penetration testers.

Highlights From The 2023 Work-From-Anywhere Global Study
Almost exactly three years ago, the COVID-19 global pandemic arrived, and millions of workers were forced to do their jobs apart from coworkers and away from workplaces.
This resulted in an unprecedented increase in employees who do the majority of their work online from anywhere they can get internet access-more than likely at home. Of course, work-from-home (WFH) employees have been around for years, but they were always a small fraction of an organization's staff.

But, when the tables turned with the coronavirus shutdowns of 2020 and remote workers became the majority, organizations had to quickly adapt-especially IT departments. After employees scattered around the globe, and then months later some returned to on-site workplaces-though many not as regularly as before-the 'hybrid workforce' became an accepted term for describing the phenomenon.

Old Cyber Gang Uses New Crypter - Scrubcrypt
Between January and February 2023, FortiGuard Labs observed a payload targeting an exploitable Oracle Weblogic Server in a specific URI.
This payload extracts ScrubCrypt, which obfuscates and encrypts applications and makes them able to dodge security programs. It already has an updated version, and the seller's webpage (Figure 1) guarantees that it can bypass Windows Defender and provide anti-debug and some bypass functions.

We analyzed the malware injected into a victim's system and, as part of our analysis, identified the threat actor as 8220 Gang using collected indicators. This mining group first appeared in 2017. The name '8220' comes from its original use of port 8220 for network communications.
