Managing the lifecycle of a company's SAP estate is no easy task. Along with the usual long list of servers, the workloads they host are typically critical to most of the core business processes. This means any downtime affecting those servers is a high priority issue that must be solved immediately to avoid monetary losses for the company.
Historically, maintenance tasks on SAP servers have been performed manually. For example, applying OS patches required a very detailed plan involving extensive research about applying packages, the list for patching servers, the right order to do it if there were dependencies, etc.
Once the plan was finished, the SAP administrators had to agree on a maintenance window with the Line Of Business (LOB) and then perform the patching and subsequent tests to make sure everything went ok. In many cases, human error resulted in some servers ending up with different patch levels, which could lead to massive issues affecting normal SAP operation.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux's edge management capabilities are now built into Red Hat Insights to help organizations more securely manage and scale deployments at the edge.
The benefits of zero-touch provisioning, system health visibility, and quick security remediations are available from a single interface. Most importantly, RHEL edge hosts are built using rpm-ostree, which enables you to treat your host OS updates like any mobile phone.
Podman is a powerful container engine that provides everything needed to run containers and groups of containers, known as pods. Podman's origins are derived from the Docker project and strive for compatibility and architectural simplicity. Podman will enable you to install applications on your edge device in a stable, repeatable manner, like on a mobile phone.
As described in our last blog, Red Hat is participating in a number of catalysts for TMForum Digital Transformation World 2023.
All of these catalysts depend on similar capabilities from Red Hat OpenShift-the telco-grade, cloud-native application platform that extends core capabilities to the edge of the network. In this blog, we will look at the key capabilities that are utilized by these catalysts. Whilst these capabilities were used to help the catalysts deliver their solutions during the collapsed timeframe, enterprises can also take advantage of the platform too, deploying into production.
